DRO the lathe

DRO the lathe
What:
We have a lathe, it has some slightly useful imperial counters built into the fine movement handles. It would be quite easy to add a DRO (Digital Read Out) to the Z and X axes.

How?

I propose we use magnetic liner encoders, the cheapest source would probably be to butcher two cheap generic digital callipers. Add some uC, 7 segment displays and software, and we'd be good to go. Bracken (talk) 18:34, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
